TCG Celebrates Autumn in CT

As we enter a busy autumn here at TCORS Capitol Group, LLC., we’d like to take a moment to stop and appreciate the bounties of the season.

This year promises spectacular fall foliage, due to an unseasonably wet summer: deep, soaking rains have warded off widespread leaf diseases, fortified root systems, and generated dark greens, rife with chlorophyll, the perfect storm for an early and vibrant leaf season, which is expected to begin to peak in mid-October. For the official CT Fall Foliage Report, visit here. Check out 7 unique ways to enjoy “leaf peeping” here in CT, including by train, by river cruise, and by zip line here

Visit Connecticut has published an up-to-date list of “9 Ways to Enjoy 90 Days of Fall in Connecticut” (officially from September 22-December 21): including treasure hunting on the CT Antiques Trail, and exploring CT’s best hiking trails (visit here for CT Magazine’s List of 25 Trails to Avoid the Crowds).

Tis’ the season for apple picking and pumpkin patches. Check out Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, where you can spend the day gathering buckets of fall’s favorite fruit (or pick some up from the Apple Barrel Farm Market), wind your way through the Corn Maze (this year to the tune of 1970s Rock), sneak in a round of golf, and grab a bite in the 1741 Bar and Grill.

Speaking of fall dining experiences, as temperatures dip, CT offers some comfortable spots for fireside fare, including the historic Griswold Inn in Essex, one of the oldest continuously operated inns in the country (est. 1776), the elegant riverside Millrights in Simsbury, and the Mill on the River, located in the more than 200-year-old Podunk Mill in South Windsor.

The fall also heralds cold and flu season, and while US Biologic and BARDA DRIVe have partnered to develop an oral flu vaccine for home delivery in the future, the CDC suggests getting your flu shot in September or October this year. If you’d like to help support the health of others, the American Red Cross is currently experiencing a critical blood shortage. Visit their website here to locate your local blood drive.

A few more autumn activities to note: Pratt Street is offering outdoor events including a market for local vendors and evenings featuring a DJ. And Lake Compounce and Quassy will host Halloween-themed fall festivals.

We hope you’ve had a great, restorative summer, and we’re looking forward to a brisk and bustling fall at TCG.
